Disputes Tribunal ruling: Southern Plumbing & Gasfitting failed to meet their obligations under the Consumer Guarantees Act by not providing a service with reasonable care and skill. Not giving repair options and not providing a repair quote as we requested. The Tribunal also found that although we were told parts were likely not available, Southern Plumbing knew or should have known that parts were available. We engaged Southern to assess a fault with our central heating furnace. Repair options were withheld and replacement was presented as the solution, which we proceeded with at a cost of approximately $13,000, believing this was the only option. This occurred despite our direct dealings with Doug, the owner. Only by chance did we later find out parts were readily available and repair was straight forward at a cost of about $700. When we raised our concerns, we were threatened with legal action rather than trying to find a resolution. We strongly recommend obtaining independent advice and written confirmation of all repair options before agreeing to replacement work with this company.

I am very happy with the work done by the two very courteous and helpful young people from Southern Plumbing who cleared the blocked internal gutters at my two storied house. I have booked a regular appointment to have this work done every six months. On their invoice they gave me a detailed report and explained the gutter was blocked with pine needles from a neighbour's pine tree. I will endevour to seek recompense from the neighbour who does not live at the house. I am happy to provide a reference for Southern Plumbing & Gasfitting Ltd.

They were upfront about pricing before the job was booked in, which I appreciated and the invoice was therefore as expected and very reasonable. Would use them again

I used Southern Plumbing & Gasfittting to investigate and repair a gas leak. George provided great service, arrived on time, was very helpful and knowledgeable when answering gas questions and efficiently completed the repair. Invoice received was as per quoted price. Will definately use their service again in the future.

Southern Plumbing responded within 24 hours to my call regarding a water leak under my house. They were very efficient, identifing the problem and fixing it in one quick visit.
